Warehouse and Racking Infrastructure Design

The first step in warehouse design is analyzing materials by volume, weight, packaging type, pallet dimensions, stackability, sensitivity, and movement frequency. Material Safety and Storage Conditions

A safe warehouse cannot be designed without understanding the technical properties of stored materials.

For each critical material, SDS/MSDS, TDS, drawings, product labels, packaging information, and special storage requirements should be reviewed. Flammable, chemical, heavy, fragile, moisture-sensitive, temperature-sensitive, or electrically risky materials directly affect warehouse layout.

Material groups are classified according to hazard class, compatibility, fire safety, leakage/spill risk, emergency response needs, and personnel access safety. This enables racking, segregated zones, quarantine areas, quality control zones, and production feeding points to be designed according to technical properties.

Digital Warehouse and ERP Integration

Traceability must work with ERP from goods receipt to finished goods shipment.

Digital warehouse structure is as important as physical setup. Goods receipt should connect delivery notes, purchase orders, and quality control; every move from receiving to putaway, production issue, semi-finished goods, and finished goods should be traceable in the system.

For serial and lot-controlled materials, traceability should link supplier, receipt date, quality status, location, production order, finished product relation, and shipment information. When integrated with ERP, this structure supports backward tracing, quality analysis, warranty processes, recall scenarios, and inventory accuracy.

Production Stores and Internal Flow

Production stores should operate as controlled and measurable buffer zones between the main warehouse and production lines.

The goal of production store design is to deliver the right material to the line at the right time, in the right quantity, with the right traceability. Line-side stock areas, feeding cycles, production-order-based issues, returns, scrap/waste areas, and quality hold points are part of this design.

Transport equipment should also be selected according to warehouse standards. Forklifts, pallet trucks, tow tractors, rack vehicles, carts, or special fixtures are evaluated by aisle width, floor condition, load weight, maneuver area, battery/charging area, and occupational safety needs.
